#MusicMonday THE GIRLS (Capitol Records) 1960s

If you've ever gone looking for things from the past on the internet, but couldn't find them, look again!

About a year ago I did a search on Google based on an old poster of an all-girl rock group I remember seeing hanging in Albany's Blue Note Record Shop years ago. They were being marketed as a female alternative to the Beatles. Couldn't find a thing! Even looked through what appeared to be an online database of Capitol Records 45rpm single releases dating back to the 1950s... again, nothing.

Schlepped down to the Blue Note and had a nice chat with the owner... but... dead end again!

But leave it to the power and magic of the information sensation (the internet) and voila! THE GIRLS were NOT a figment of my imagination! (I knew that if the Mascots eventually showed up on the Net, The Girls would too!)

Most of the time, I absolutely hate re-makes. If you wanna do someone else's material, you'd better do a damn good job!

"To me this is the best kind of remake. You don't simply make a copy of the original. That's just lazy and disrespectful to the original artist. To take an admired song and do an interpretation that shows the song in a completely different light, yet sounds good too, makes it interesting and worthy of the original.
