Top Entrecard Droppers For March 2011

Far far far more important is the second of the following two charts!

See those five blogs that gave me back the most clicks (visitors)??? I didn't spend more than 384 EC Credits on any single one! In fact, I bought most of my ads for 64 ec, by carefully monitoring the ad rate son the blogs I wanted my widget to appear on, much the same way an ebay devotee watches the bidding!

One problem encountered by many blogs on the EC system is that of a high bounce rate! Blogger Big Daddy Richard shares stats for Lainyonline: "Compared with the overall internet population, the site's audience tends to be users who browse from home; they are also disproportionately low-income women between the ages of 45 and 65 who have more children. About 73% of visits to the site consist of only one pageview (i.e., are bounces)."

Hmmm... Big Daddy got his stats from Alexa. But if you look at the Lainyblog, you can see it is not the least bit likely to appeal to the kind of readership Alexa would have you think! (You can't always trust Alexa!)
Some of the blogs selling EC ads for more than 1000 EC's (you know the ones) that I advertised on during March failed to pull in more than 2 visitors! And here's the REAL DEAL: of the 33 widget-to-my blog visits from the Orgasmic Chef, 19 of those visitors have come back at least three more times since their initial visit to my blog! Compare that against an ad I once ran on - let's call it 'Blog X' - that cost me 1048 ecs and brought me 12 visitors (that was in January) of which NONE have ever come back!

The BOTTOM LINE ::: BE smart when you advertise on EC!

Beng-Gee will give your PC a BUG! (Or not...)

:::WARNING::: Check any automated links you have on your blog! Here's a blog that surfers are afraid to visit because a virus has nested on it: under the heading "MY BLOGGER BUDDIES" (depedning on your browser, you may be able to click on the images to see larger versions).

::: MESSAGE TO BENG-GEE ::: edit that list down to the five or ten bloggers (like me) whom you KNOW you can TRUST!

Imagine my surprise when I set out to go entrecard dropping today and THIS was staring back at me from my monitor:

According to Google, going to drop an EC on beng-gee could result in "malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent" - so I did a little digging and found the culprit "Gamer's Den" located in a sidebar link on Beng-gee.blogspot.com

Enter the Loop

Things come and go on the Net: this blog carries a mix of old and new widgets, networks and technologies...

If you look over to the top right-hand sidebar you will see I have added a marvelous little widget to this blog. There's also a little picture of the widget below. It's right under the "Entrecard 125x125" advert widget. See it?

Back in 2005 or so there were a lot of blogs linking via "ring surf" or "surf ring" - I think even blog*spot still has the old "next blog" feature... it's a portal - a way that you could jump to visit another blog that may or may not have something in common with the blog you visited in the first place.

THE LOOP is an easy way to visit great blogs - the added value is that if you are an Entrecarder, you can "drop" your EC on the blogs you visit... you also become a member of a unique little network of linked blogs!

Even better: if a particular EC widget tweaks your curiousity, you can click on that EC widget and the advertised blog or website will open in a NEW window. So you'll have an extra opportunity to make a drop, without losing your place on THE LOOP's "surf ring"...

The "loopmaster" tells me that some visitors using the Loop are NOT entrecard members. They just like going from blog to blog without opening up a bunch of windows. I suspect some of them might be "old school" ringsurfers!

ENTER THE LOOP

While I have this opportunity, I'd like to address fellow-entrecarders. Love the service or tolerate it - be you an active dropper or a once-in-awhile dropper, you gotta admit it's a very unique service and very valuable! If you start to think you're spending too much time doing the drops, the LOOP is a great way to get a little more stabilized! Don't worry if you can't hit that magic 300 a day... I don't!

Top Entrecard Droppers February 2011

Many EC network affiliates upload a "top droppers" post. Nice. But more importantly: what blogs that I exchange EC credits for advertsing with give me the most bang? Here they are! (*HINT* - you may want to advertise on these sites!)

"This table lists the sites who provided the most clicks over the last 30 days via adverts you ran on their widget. High numbers are good, suggesting that you received many visitors interested in your card, and therefore that the site you bought the advert from did a good job of placing the widget to attract attention."

God, Please Make My Blog Popular!

A Real Eye-Opener!

A lady blogger overseas recently made a move to try and increase her online income. Keep in mind that there are a lot of work-at-home moms and work-at-home artists, merchandisers & copywriters throughout Southeast Asia and Hong Kong. This lady (who asked she not be linked to or otherwise identified) had been posting in both English and Chinese, about a 50-50 mix.

She decided to join entrecard and signed up for cmf ads, nuffnang and AdSense. She was forced to stop posting in Chinese, as that is frowned upon by many online services. They demand English. The screengrabs from Alexa (to the left) show the results. From almost the day she made the change TIME ON SITE tanked! Her blog's BOUNCE RATE SKYROCKETED.

I'm not passing judgement here. Just looking at a snapshot of what one blogger did and what happened to her blog afterward. You might get different results. You might not.

Point is, with the world economy a big fat question mark, bloggers are scrambling to make money online any way they can... even the MICROPENNIES count! Some of the services out there pay .0002 per click - do the math - how many clicks to get to ONE CENT? (Those micro-pennies DO add up! I remember seeing financial guru-ess Suze Orman saying on National TV that if she sees a penny on the pavement, she cannot resist picking it up!)

With so many blogs out there - think about this - imagine every house on your street had its own radio broadcasting station that could be dialed in from anywhere in town. Who would be able to listen to all of these stations? Who would want to? Other residents in the same building might find a radio station across town they like better than their own.

That's what the blogosphere is like for millions upon millions of bloggers. Some will never see traffic rise above "10 hits" in a day. Very few will attract more than a thousand visits a day.

More than a year ago when I noticed my blog traffic had taken a mysterious sudden dramatic plunge, I searched for ways to attract visitors - quickly. I found entrecard and immediately put it to work. Fast forward to now. I'm still affiliated with the network but I now get 19 or 20 visits a day from entrecarders. And that's not really a bad thing: I've found a more effective way to lure visitors and get them to STAY ON THE PAGE for more than a minute:

Continuously upload fresh content: post, post, post!

I carry a notebook with me at all times to jot down ideas. When I get on a roll, I can fill up a few pages of that notebook in no time! I don't have to be online to blog, either! I often sit at the computer and write. Sometimes I write posts on my smartphone's notepad or write an email on my VM Kyocera and send it to myself. There have been times when I have as many as a dozen posts in the preparation and/or "rough draft" stage.

Get those "creative juices" flowing! Are you on blogger or wordpress? Both platforms allow bloggers to "save" posts without publishing them immediately. Users also have the option of scheduling posts to appear later on...

You could even be posting articles after you've died! You could "stay alive" on the net for decades, assuming whatever servers were holding your data didn't crash or get corrupted or switched "off."

Personal Support for Removal of Palladium Anti-Virus

PRINT this post on paper and keep it in a safe place!

Palladium is a bogus anti-virus program and belongs to the same rogue software family as Security Shield and Antivirus Action.

Palladium & Palladium Pro infection entry points include clicking on ads you see on legitimate websites, giving the green-light to install an uncertified video codec, opening a spam e-mail attachment, dropping on an unfamilar Entrecard blog, accepting what looks like a message from a friend on AIM or Facebook, and playing a game on a favorite social network.

No matter what, even if you have to pull the power plug on your PC or disconnect the internet connection, NEVER NEVER NEVER answer any questions, click any links or buttons, or type any information into any kind of box that pops up while your computer is under the influence of Palladium. (Even if it looks "familiar" or "friendly"). Palladium steals information such as passwords and credit card/banking information that either your provide or have already stored on your machine. NEVER grant your browser permission to "remember" your passwords - you're asking for trouble!
Despite the hundreds of forums and websites offering removal tools and How-to-remove advice, once this little monster is on your computer, you are baked! Instructions such as these would simply not work on either of the two cases of Palladium-infected computers that I have recently treated.

The removal tools and true anti-virus programs are useless because Palladium overrides anything else (including Task Manager) that tries to initiate.

I recently posted about removing Palladium and since have received hundreds of emails requesting additional information, specifically, a simple but effective step-by-step explanation how-to remove Palladium AntiVirus.

Follow these instructions exactly, please:

1. Restart your system
2. As your system is booting up, type F5 on some computers, F8 on others to call up the boot menu
3. Select the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option
4. Log-on as administrator if needed***
5. At your command prompt type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
6. Hit Enter
7. This will open the system restore wizard…
You need to rollback the system at least five days BEFORE the Palladium splash screen first appeared on your monitor.

*** You should be at C:/ ::: enter cd.. or cd\ or whatever your system commands are in order to be at the C:/ drive (that's usually your main drive) prompt on the white-on-black screen

8. Follow the prompts - don't be alarmed if the computer seems to be idle for long periods of time. Even when the prcess is completed, it will take several minutes between the time your opening system background splash image appears and your icons begin to populate the screen.

9. Once your system is back up and running, make sure you have your anti-virus screens running at all times. The small sacrifice in speed is worth its weight in gold, as the developers of Palladium are writing new code that will make all of the above removal methods IMPOSSIBLE to execute. Your genuine AV program is essential to keep intruders out.

You should also download and deploy these two excellent free tools: malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org and SpyBot, as they will safely clean out anything that has "stuck" to your system, and once in awhile they identify and destroy or quarantine a file that your AV program might miss.

Personally I use and recommend Avast Anti-Virus, the FREE home version.

WARNING all ENTRECARDers! Palladium AntiVirus has been "caught" from blogs on the network! Drop only on blogs you know!
A Reflection on the Super Bowl Ads - Sunday night, I stayed up to watch some of the Super Bowl. I got tired sometime after half time and went to bed without staying up for the end of the game...

“Whether or not the revolutions will have been fully successful–and no-one has really defined that success–there is a palpable and electric sense of change, not just in North Africa but globally. The events have revealed that there is already a network for change and how it has worked. One tweet widely circulating from Egypt outlined the method: “Facebook used to set the date, Twitter used to share logistics, YouTube to show the world, all to connect people.” The dispersed co-ordination shows that the network has learned from Iran that social networking can also be used by the police to track down activists. Mubarak tried to cut off all Internet access, hoping that this would quell the street actions. Facebook went first, followed by Twitter, then all connections. It was a revolution watched on social networks, but acted in the streets.”: Annie Paul thinks Malcolm Gladwell is wrong about the significance of the role of social media in the Egyptian protests...

“But the uprising is enormous, shocking to me for this part of the world, a revolution seeded and cultivated in the blogosphere, now taken into the streets, and the women of Egypt are in the forefront....it is proof that this thing called citizen journalism is powerful”: Lynn Sweeting, in solidarity with the lady protesters of Egypt.

Those of you old enough to remember the 1970s may have forgotten about this story: In 1973, 16-year-old John Paul Getty III was abducted in Rome, Italy. Gangsters demanded $17 million for his release. When the Getty family refused to pay up, the kidnappers cut off the teenager's ear and mailed it to an Italian newspaper. That wasn't the end... this kid paid a terrible price and now he has passed.

Entrecard Woes Continue

Here's what a commenter left on "Seek No More" blog ::: "I wish EC would tell us what is going on. Were they hacked? Server crash? I notice this morning that all the top sites are no longer at the top (except for seeknomore). Frustrating yes?"

YES!

Personally, I believe it's time to stop using all of these gimmicks as crutches! Better to worry about producing quality content than using services like Entrecard as "life support" for your blog!
