New York's New Marriage Equality

In case you are wondering what may follow...

NYmag ::: "Supporting gay marriage would give US President Barack Obama serious progressive cred at a time when his accomplishments in passing the Affordable Care Act and repealing "don't ask, don't tell" aren't carrying much weight. And it would be a seriously bold, historic thing to do. (Not to mention it would tap into a wellspring of gay donor money, which is why came to New York City ths week in the first place.) No doubt his campaign has been doing polling on the issue in battleground states, and maybe, just maybe, what they're hearing has shown them a window of opportunity. "

Decades ago, people debated and resisted abortion legislation, which eventually became one of the laws of the land. Some called it, at the time, "the beginning of a slippery slope". The same crowd views same-sex unions as "the next slide down that slippery slope".

PBS recently aired Two Spirits, the concluding episode of this season's Independent Lens series, which detailed the traditional Navajo belief that there we are living in a many-gendered world, one that includes many more sexes that just male and female. It was an amazing broadcast!

Filmmaker Lydia Nibley seeks to explain the Navajo idea of the nádleehí, which translates in English to "one who constantly transforms." Their culture, along with other Native American heritages, believe there's at least four genders: male, female, male with a feminine essence, and female with a masculine essence. [30 years or sooner] ::: POLYGAMY - fueled by Islamic and Mormon influences on American society. (The Technium lists "Polygamy is granted legal status in the US." as one of its "2019 Unthinkables".

[90 years or sooner] ::: HUMAN/ANIMAL MARRIAGE - I know this sounds whacked out. Don't snicker too loudly! It is happening already... there was also a woman who married a mammal in Israel back in 2005. (The story showed up on MSNBC). Now certainly if you told somebody back in the year 1910 that one day we would see same-sex marriage, they would have said you were nuts (and sent you to a place where one day you might be lobotomized).
