BURIED WITH FLUFFY
HARTSDALE, N.Y. (AP) _ A STATE AGENCY HAS TOLD NEW YORK'S ANIMAL
CEMETERIES TO STOP BURYING THE ASHES OF PET OWNERS ALONGSIDE THEIR
BELOVED CATS, DOGS AND PARAKEETS.
THE ORDER FROM NEW YORK'S DIVISION OF CEMETERIES HAS BLOCKED AT
LEAST ONE BURIAL. AND IT HAS UPSET PEOPLE WHO HAD ARRANGED IN
ADVANCE TO JOIN THEIR DEAD PETS, BUT NOW MAY HAVE TO GO ELSEWHERE.
A CEMETERY DIRECTOR IS RESISTING, ASKING THE STATE TO ALLOW
INTERMENTS OF PEOPLE ALREADY SIGNED UP. AND A LAWYER WHOSE UNCLE
DIED AFTER THE ORDER WAS ISSUED SAYS THE CEMETERY DIVISION IS WRONG
ON THE LAW. SHE HAS SENT THE STATE A DETAILED LEGAL MEMO AND SAYS
SHE'LL SUE IF SHE HAS TO.
PET CEMETERY OFFICIALS REPORTED RECENTLY THAT THE NUMBER OF
AMERICANS SEEKING BURIAL WITH THEIR PETS WAS RISING.
